How to send a wedding invitation on WhatsApp
The link, the preview, the message beside it, groups versus one at a time, and when to send.
Send a link, not a file
A PDF arrives as a download; a video arrives as a fifteen-megabyte file that WhatsApp compresses until the names blur, and it is phone-shaped, so anyone opening it on a laptop gets black bars. A link arrives as a preview: an image, a title, and one tap to open. It weighs nothing, it never blurs, and when you change the date everyone's copy changes too.
The preview is the first impression
When you paste a link into WhatsApp it fetches a preview image and a title. Make sure the invitation you send has one made for it: the couple's names as the title, the card as the image. Ours does this for every card; check yours by pasting the link into a chat with yourself before sending it to anyone.
One guest at a time
A group message is a broadcast; a message to one person is an invitation. Send each guest their own message, with their name in it, and if your invitation supports per-guest links, use them: the envelope greets them by name and you can see who has opened it. Our builder gives you a Send button beside every guest that opens WhatsApp with the message already written.
The message beside the link
Keep it to three lines: who, when, and the link. Long paragraphs above a link get skimmed and the link gets missed. The wording is below.
When to send
Four to six weeks before, for a wedding; two weeks before, for an engagement. Send the elders' invitations first, and in person if you can. A reminder message three days before the first function, with the link again, is welcome; anything more is not.

Small things that matter
- Paste the link on its own line so the preview appears.
- Never send the guest list to the guests. A forwarded message shows who else got it; a per-guest link does not.
- If an elder does not use WhatsApp, the same link works in an SMS, and it works read aloud on a phone call: "gladlyinvited dot com slash" and the name you chose for it.
